A female Dachshund, soon to be named Lola, licks her new owner Jeremy Jones on the nose at the BARC Animal Shelter & Wellness Center on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, in Houston. Jones and his wife Alissa came to the shelter seeking their first pet, "We're hoping to find our first new family member here," said Jones. "We want to adopt her...we think we want to name her Lola." The Wellness Center opened its doors to the general public for the first time today in recognition of World Rabies Day. The Center was created to offer low-cost animal wellness solutions to citizens who otherwise might not be able to afford their pet's basic medical needs.
